The row at Visva Bharati University has escalated with the university now turning on Mamata Banerjee after she came to Amartya Sen's defence and accused the university of saffronisation. The University issued a press statement after the Chief Minister's visit to Professor Sen's residence in Santiniketan. On this issue, Visva Bharati University's Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty said, "This was not an attempt to humiliate Professor Amartya Sen, but a desire and an endeavor to reclaim our land."
