In an initiative to go green, the residents of the Shivalaya Tower, a housing society in Mumbai's Kandivali have switched to LED lights and solar rooftop panels to power up the society's common areas like the lifts, parking areas, playground, CCTV cameras and water pumps. A 25-storey building with around 147 flats and a very high-power consumption, these green measures has brought down their power costs by 75 per cent and even reduced their monthly maintenance bills. While the residents of Shivalaya Tower are going all out to develop a sustainable living environment, the money they are saving is being invested in other green measures like rain water harvesting. One of the first buildings in their area to go solar, Shivalaya Tower has also been an inspiration to its neighbours to join the green wave.
