In the Muktsar district of Punjab, thousands of poor families in several villages are still awaiting help from the state government to either repair or construct their houses. On paper, they are the beneficiaries of a Rs. 40 crore grant by the Parkash Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government for the construction of houses. But an investigation by NDTV has revealed that some of these villagers did not even receive a penny while most others received less than half the money that was meant to be disbursed.
