The CPI has given the CPM an ultimatum, which can lead to possible split in the Left in Kerala. CPI has threatened to contest 18 out of the 20 seats in the state on its own. The problem seat is Ponnani. As per seat-sharing agreement in the Left Front, it was decided that an independent candidate will contest who is accepted to all constituents. The CPI had identified an independent candidate but the CPM rejected him. The CPI calls this big-brother attitude by the CPM.
