When several villages in the lower altitude areas of Leh faced shortage of water due to a glacier melting away fast, 77-year-old Chewang Norphel decided to divert the water from this glacier and store it in mini reservoirs; this, in turn, created artificial glaciers which melted slowly during summers to provide water.
