The government's decision to hike wheat MSP marginally by Rs 65 per quintal may have some justification despite the CACP's recommendation of no hike, says Y.K. Alagh. He says that a consistent policy around MSP for grains needs to be developed and ad hoc changes such as reducing acreage for grains in favour of other crops like pulses and oilseeds will not help address issues.
