Speaking to NDTV, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal listed out a long range of sensitive agricultural products that have been completely kept outside the agreement, including meat, poultry, dairy, rice, wheat, sugar, millets, pulses, oilseeds and several fruits. Goyal says there are zero concessions on commodities where India is self-sufficient. He argues that only a few products, which India has been importing for years due to domestic shortages, are part of the pact, and even those have been opened in a calibrated manner with safeguards and transition periods. His message, the trade deal protects Indian farmers while helping consumers and the broader economy.
