Philippines VP Sara Duterte Posts Bail After Arrest For Alleged Threats Against President Marcos

Philippines Vice President Sara Duterte posted bail on Saturday after a court issued an arrest order over charges that she publicly threatened to arrange the assassination of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and two others. Duterte voluntarily appeared before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, posted 360,000 pesos bail for three counts of grave threats and was released after the arrest warrant was lifted. The case stems from remarks Duterte made during a 2024 online news conference, when she said an assassin would kill Marcos, his wife and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she herself were killed. Duterte later said she was expressing concerns for her own safety. She was impeached by the House of Representatives in May over the threat allegations and alleged financial anomalies. A conviction could permanently disqualify her from public office and prevent her from running for president in 2028.
