Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has officially announced her bid for the presidency in the 2028 elections. Speaking at a press conference in Mandaluyong City, Duterte pledged to “offer my life, my strength and my future in the service of our nation.” Her announcement comes just days before preliminary hearings at the International Criminal Court involving her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. During her speech, she also apologised for supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr in 2022 and accused his administration of corruption and institutional abuse. Under the Philippine Constitution, the president serves a single six-year term, making Marcos Jr ineligible for re-election in 2028.
