Partha Das Gupta Wins NDTV Masterstroke Art Award For Public Art Installation Of The Year

Renowned Kolkata-based artist Partha Das Gupta has won the NDTV Masterstroke Art Award for Public Art Installation of the Year, recognising his extraordinary contribution to transforming Durga Puja pandals into powerful works of contemporary public art. The award honours Das Gupta for reimagining the idol of Goddess Durga not just as a religious symbol, but as an idea that provokes thought, dialogue and reflection. His large-scale installations have consistently turned public spaces into immersive artistic experiences where philosophy, social issues and community life converge. Accepting the award, Das Gupta described Durga Puja as a unique platform where art reaches the masses organically. He spoke about taking art “out of the white cube” and onto the streets, calling it the most authentic form of public expression. He dedicated the honour to the countless artisans, craftsmen and collaborators who contribute to creating these installations each year.
