Parliament Monsoon Session | Centre To Table Tougher Anti-Paper Leak Bill In Parliament Today

Centre is set to introduce a strengthened Anti-Paper Leak Bill in Parliament amid the ongoing Monsoon session seeking to amend the two-year-old law with significantly tougher provisions aimed at curbing examination fraud. The proposed legislation mandates that investigations into paper leak cases be completed within two months, ensuring faster prosecution and quicker justice. It also proposes stringent punishments, including a minimum jail term of five years, extendable up to ten years, for those involved in paper leaks and other unfair examination practices. Organised exam fraud could attract a minimum seven-year sentence and fines of up to ₹10 crore, a sharp increase from the earlier ₹50 lakh penalty. The bill has been listed for introduction, consideration and passage in Parliament. Ahead of the debate, Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and Home Minister Amit Shah held a late-night meeting to finalise the government's strategy and prepare its response to the Opposition, signalling the Centre's determination to push through tougher anti-cheating reforms.
