Over 1 Million Displaced: Typhoon Fung-Wong Devastates Philippines

Super Typhoon Fung-wong has slammed into the Philippines northeast, bringing winds up to 230 kilometers an hour and torrential rain as it made landfall. The country’s weather bureau raised its highest storm alert, warning that Fung-wong could impact over 30 million people. Strong winds knocked down power lines, forcing the evacuation of more than a million people. It approached from the Pacific while the Philippines was still dealing with the devastation wrought by Typhoon Kalmaegi, which left at least 224 people dead in central provinces on Tuesday before pummeling Vietnam, where at least five were killed. A villager drowned in flash floods, and another died in the eastern Samar province when she was pinned by debris. 1.4 million others have also been reportedly displaced. #Philippines #Typhoon #FungWong
