The political battle over the Haldwani controversy is intensifying ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. BJP president Nitin Nabin, speaking at a rally in Haldwani, accused the Congress of spreading lies and said Uttarakhand voters would give the party a fitting response. The remarks come amid a wider confrontation over Dalit identity, dignity and representation after a "shuddhikaran" ceremony at the venue of Mallikarjun Kharge's August 8 rally. The controversy has since drawn in Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, with an FIR also registered against Rahul Gandhi.
