There are many pillars in a democracy, those pillars support each other and become the edifice and framework that holds up and supports democracy. The legislature, the executive, the media, and the judiciary. But recent events have raised serious doubts over the functioning of these pillars as independent bodies, as four top Supreme Court Judges publicly highlighted some of the issues being faced by the judiciary. Allegations include the partiality displayed in the allocation of high profile cases, that junior judges are assigned to constitution benches, and biased decisions taken by the Chief Justices in the present and the past. This begs us to ask the question - is the freedom of our state institution under threat? Are bodies such as the Election Commission, the Judiciary and the media, being manipulated to achieve political ends? For all this and more, watch this week's episode of The Big Fight.
