'Sengol' Makers Get Special Invite For New Parliament Opening

The Vummidi Bangaru Chetty family in Chennai that made the sceptre or Sengol (in Tamil) in 1947 for the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has got a special invite to attend the inauguration of the new Parliament in Delhi. The sceptre, that marked the transfer of power from the British, would be placed in the new parliament. For decades it was in a museum at Allahabad till the jewellers traced and authenticated it.
