Is it realistic to expect the Election Commission to completely suppress fake news in these elections? This was the promise made by the Election Commission when it announced election dates and the model code of conduct yesterday. This raises more pertinent questions like how will party supporters be curbed from spreading fake news? Does the poll panel and the platforms have the bandwidth to tackle all the sources? Interestingly, ShareChat, an Indian made chatting app was included. Speaking exclusively to NDTV's Amitoj Singh, Sharechat's Public Policy Head Berges Malu talks about how ShareChat is predominantly different in all its aspects from WhatsApp, and how unlike WhatsApp, ShareChat can manoeuvre the source of all its information generated.
