"Coronasura": Unique Idol In Bengal's Durga Puja Pandal

Durga Puja in the shadow of the pandemic and the virus is never far from the mind. At Telipukur Jubasangha pandal in north Kolkata's Dum Dum, the Mahishasur who is vanquished in mythology by Goddess Durga resembles the coronavirus, complete with spikes sticking out of its hair, just like the spikes in images of the virus. The idol maker is Indrajit Paul, who works at a studio at Kolkata's famous idol-making district, called Kumartuli.
