India's total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 1,13,85,339 with 26,291 new infections. This is the highest single day spike this year. 118 deaths because of the virus were logged in the last 24 hours. NDTV spoke to Dr Shekhar Mande, DG, CSIR, on the coronavirus surge. "All pandemics have several waves. We have seen this in Europe that cases dropped and increased again. So even if it can't be said definitively in Indian context that a second wave is upon us, we should be mindful of Covid-appropriate behavior to prevent a second wave," he said.
