NATO On Greenland | Greenland In Crosshairs: US Bill to Annex Greenland Draws Denmark, NATO Pushback

A fresh geopolitical storm is brewing in the Arctic after a US Republican lawmaker introduced a bill seeking the annexation of Greenland, a sovereign territory of Denmark and a member of NATO. The proposal, aligned with repeated remarks by US President Donald Trump, authorises pursuing Greenland “by whatever means necessary”, citing national security concerns amid rising competition with China and Russia in the Arctic. Denmark and Greenland have rejected the move as illegal and unacceptable, while NATO allies are reportedly considering boosting their military presence in the region to deter any unilateral US action. The debate now centres on whether the bill is symbolic posturing or a serious attempt to reshape Arctic geopolitics.
