Myanmar's Military-backed President Meets China's Xi In Beijing

The leader of Myanmar’s military-backed government, Min Aung Hlaing, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday during a visit to Beijing. Xi welcomed Min Aung Hlaing with an official ceremony at the Great Hall of the People before the two leaders held discussions on China-Myanmar relations and issues of regional and international concern. According to Chinese state media, Xi urged the two sides to continue joint efforts in cracking down on criminal activities such as fraud and drug smuggling. Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar will seek to enhance trade and investment ties with China and will ensure the safety of Chinese funded enterprises and personnel in Myanmar, according to state media. Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of several bilateral cooperation documents covering areas including cross-border transportation in the Greater Mekong subregion, free trade, assistance in natural disasters, health and media, officials said.
