"'Chamar' Used As Slur For My Father, A Deputy PM": Ex Speaker Meira Kumar
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has spoken strongly against the caste system. Speaking in the wake of the horrific murder of a 9-year-old Dalit boy by a teacher in Rajasthan over drinking water from his pot, Ms Kumar lamented that the caste brutalities have continued even after 75 years of independence. She said that the so-called upper castes take pride in humiliating the lower castes and social and political will is needed to change the caste system.
