Illegal immigration in Mumbai has become structural and self-perpetuating, a new report has warned, cautioning that unchecked migration could reshape the city’s population within a generation. Speaking to NDTV, Souvil Mondal claimed that nearly 70 per cent of illegal migrants hold voter identity cards, raising concerns over governance and enforcement. Mondal also said the proposed Special Investigation Report, or SIR, would not be immediately effective in addressing the issue. The report highlights long-term demographic and administrative challenges if migration continues unchecked.
