Masked Stone Pelters Target Police, Tear Gas Fired To Prevent Escalation: Delhi Police

A violent clash erupted early this morning during an anti-encroachment drive near a mosque in Delhi. Locals threw stones at municipal officials and police teams during the demolition on a land adjoining the Syed Faiz Elahi mosque at Ramlila Maidan. Delhi Police Joint Commissioner Madhur Verma told NDTV that those involved in the stone-pelting incident had deliberately concealed their identities by wearing masks, hoodies, and covering their faces with handkerchiefs or cloth. He said the police responded immediately and proportionately, with the first line of action being the use of tear gas shells to disperse the mob and prevent escalation. The situation was swiftly brought under control, ensuring law and order during the demolition drive.
