In a massive twist in the NCP saga playing out in Maharashtra where the uncle and founder of the party Sharad Pawar is locked in a tussle with nephew Ajit Pawar for control of the party. It now emerges that Ajit Pawar had on June 30, two days before his coup, already removed Sharad Pawar as president of the NCP. Sources in the rebel faction said they have mentioned this in their letter to the Election Commission, in which they have staked claim to the party name and election symbol. Ajit Pawar was made president on June 30 and then on July 2, he was sworn in as deputy Chief Minister. Around 40 MLAs, MPs and MLCs had signed affidavits that day supporting the rebels, which the Commission received today, according to sources.
