Amid fears of fuel supply disruptions linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, the Petroleum Ministry has directed Indian refineries to increase LPG production and prioritise supplies for domestic households. The government has also introduced a 25-day inter-booking period to prevent hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders. At the same time, imported LPG meant for non-domestic use will be prioritised for essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions. Officials say the measures are part of contingency planning to ensure stable fuel availability in India as geopolitical tensions threaten global energy supply chains.
