Nutrition influencer Revant Himatsingka tells NDTV that very few Indians realistically understand the nutrition labels on packaged food. He points to labels being largely in English, small font sizes and complex ingredient names as major barriers to consumer awareness. Himatsingka says India needs to focus not just on education but on "health literacy", arguing that health should be taught as a compulsory subject in schools alongside mathematics, history and geography. He believes better-informed consumers would make it harder for companies to mislead them about what they eat.
