The DMK has criticised the Tamil Nadu government after the Madras High Court struck down its order granting government jobs to the families of victims of the Karur stampede. DMK leader A. Saravanan accused the government of "playing with the emotions" of bereaved families by announcing relief measures without ensuring they would withstand legal scrutiny. Referring to the court's observations, he questioned why similar benefits were not extended to victims of other tragedies, arguing that all citizens affected by such incidents should be treated equally.
