Japan Fire | Japan's Sacred Eternal Flame Hall Was Destroyed In Miyajima Island's Fire

A Buddhist hall in Western Japan known for housing an "eternal flame" that has been burning for over 1,000 years caught fire and burned to the ground on Miyajima Island. Located near Mount Misen, in Hiroshima prefecture, the fire at the Reikado Hall was first reported on Wednesday morning, according to the local police. The fire was confirmed extinguished on Thursday, with around 30 firefighters on the scene tackling the flames, according to the local fire service. The Reikado Hall is part of Daishoin Buddhist temple complex. The ‘eternal flame’ is said to have been originally lit by Buddhist monk Kukai over 1,200 years ago.
