Iran FM Blames US for Escalation of Protests, Says Violence Used to Invite Foreign Intervention

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of using nationwide protests in Iran as a pretext for intervention. Speaking to foreign diplomats in Tehran, Araghchi claimed the demonstrations turned violent to provide Washington an excuse to interfere. Activists say more than 500 people have been killed, most of them protesters, even as Iran continues an internet shutdown, making independent verification difficult.
