Speaking to NDTV’s Ahtasham Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's National Vice President Prof. Salim Engineer strongly condemned the Uttar Pradesh police's actions during the recent 'I Love Muhammad' controversy, calling them brutal and politically motivated. He questioned the arrests, lathi charge, and objection to peaceful protests in Bareilly, asserting that Muslims were unfairly targeted. Prof. Engineer criticized UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statements as divisive and revengeful, urging the judiciary and central government to take action. He highlighted the violation of Supreme Court guidelines in bulldozing Muslim properties and emphasized that Muslims are equal citizens who have contributed to India's freedom. He also demanded the immediate release of cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza, calling his arrest unjust.
