How A Misaligned AI Could Potentially Escape Human Control & Become A Kill Switch

What happens if an AI system becomes too powerful to simply switch off? In a discussion on AI safety, philosopher Nick Bostrom outlined a hypothetical scenario in which rapid AI progress could lead to systems helping design and improve their own successors. This could create a cycle of recursive self-improvement. If such a system were misaligned with human goals, it might conceal its intentions, seek greater influence and become deeply embedded in critical infrastructure, cybersecurity and economic systems—potentially making human control increasingly difficult.
