Anthropic CEO Urges AI Companies To Slow Model Development Amid Misuse Fears
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has urged AI companies to slow the pace of model development, warning that increasingly powerful AI systems could advance faster than safety measures. Amodei has proposed a framework involving stronger safeguards and permanent third-party reviewers inside frontier AI companies. His call comes after an Anthropic report detailed the misuse of Claude in weapons development, cyber operations, surveillance and fraud. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has backed the proposal, saying AI companies need to “pace the frontier,” while Tesla CEO Elon Musk also endorsed Amodei’s warning.
