Rising global temperatures are accelerating glacier melt across the Himalayas, raising concerns over future water security in India and other countries of the Global South. Speaking to NDTV, Dr Debajit Palit, Centre Head at Chintan Research Foundation’s Centre for Climate Change & Energy Transition, warned that the loss of Himalayan glaciers could lead to water shortages in the years ahead. Dr Palit also stressed the need to bring the Global South’s perspective into the global climate debate, particularly ahead of COP31, and highlighted the importance of climate finance and disaster-resilient infrastructure in tackling the growing climate crisis.
