Protests are intensifying in Washington, D.C., as President Trump's crime emergency order keeps the capital under heavy federal control. Thousands of National Guard troops and federal agents have been deployed, alongside armoured vehicles and helicopter patrols. Demonstrators chanting "Free DC" clashed with police, even as officials insist crime is falling. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and senior aides have visited troops on the streets, flipping burgers and handing out pizza in a show of solidarity.
