Tamil Nadu celebrates the harvest festival of Pongal today. The first day of the Tamil month of Thai is believed to usher in prosperity. People worship the Sun God for a bountiful harvest. The four-day long festival began yesterday with Bhogi, when people burnt discarded items. NDTV's Sam Daniel captured the Pongal celebrations with the Kumaravels family, speaking to members from three generations on what Pongal means to them.
