Central Delhi witnessed high tension late last night as a large-scale demolition drive was carried out near Ramlila Ground in the Turkman Gate area. NDTV, the only channel reporting live on the ground, captured the sequence of events as rumours spread that a mosque was being demolished, triggering panic and unrest. Police clarified that the demolition targeted illegally constructed structures-including a library, dispensary, and marriage hall-spread over nearly one acre, and not the adjacent Mosque. As bulldozers rolled in, a large crowd gathered, stone-pelting began, and the situation turned volatile. Delhi Police later brought the situation under control and arrested five people. Debris removal is now underway amid heavy police presence.
