Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said that ''selfish announcements of freebies'' will prevent the country from becoming self-reliant, increase the burden on honest taxpayers and prevent investment in new technologies. Bringing to PM Modi loggerheads with the AAP, who have made their stance on freebies a much more lenient one. Sanjay Singh of the AAP says that the announcement of the extension of the PMGKY Scheme may be timed too well with the upcoming elections in India.
