Congress leader P Chidambaram has strongly criticised the centre over the farmer protests, saying the government must withdraw the new laws instead of amending them. "This is a law that paves the way for the entry of companies and weakens the mandis. Whatever weakens mandis removes a safety net for farmers and strikes fear at them," Mr Chidambaram told NDTV. "The only ego I see is the ego of the Modi government, my way or the highway. I made this law, I'm in authority, that's it. The inspiration is Donald Trump. This attitude of the government, I won't consult anyone, I won't consult the opposition... This is known as Trumpism. Trumpism is the word that describes what the Modi government is doing," Mr Chidambaram said.
