Israel struck the southern port city of Sidon in Lebanon without warning, and later warned residents of a neighborhood in the city to flee ahead of another attack. The Israeli military did not immediately disclose the target of the strike, though said it has targeted members of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and allies. There was no immediate report of casualties. Lebanon’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood the Islamic Group and the Palestinian Hamas militant group, key local allies of Hezbollah, are notably present in the city along the Mediterranean. Israeli Arabic military spokesperson Avichay Adraee soon after issued an evacuation warning for residents in the Sidon neighborhood of Haret Saida ahead of another strike on what he said was Hezbollah military infrastructure. Israel’s airstrikes have been largely concentrated in areas deep into southern Lebanon and the capital’s southern suburbs. Sidon, Lebanon’s third largest city, is just over 27 miles away from Beirut.
