Award winning director Aparna Sen's new Bengali film Arshinagar -- Mirrorland in English -- opened on Christmas Day in Kolkata. It is a musical like Hollywood's 'Chicago' or 'Westside Story' and based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with a contemporary twist. Romeo is Hindu, Juliet a Muslim and the film Ms Sen's cinematic comment on intolerance. But response to the film has been mixed. Aparna Sen says it could be because she has broken out of mould, experimented with form and refused to be stereotyped. "I am proud of my film," she says.
