Egypt Soccer Fans Celebrate Team's World Cup Achievement As They Return Home
Thousands of fans turned out Friday to welcome home Egypt's national soccer team after its World Cup run ended with a 3-2 loss to defending champion Argentina in the round of 16. Crowds packed El-Alamein International Airport, playing music, waving photos of star forward Mohamed Salah and holding signs celebrating the team, despite the disappointment of Tuesday's elimination. "We came here to support the Egyptian national team and tell them: You made us proud," said Laila Mohammed, an Egyptian fan. "As you return home today, we truly feel as if you won the tournament and the trophy."
