Direct Tax target hiked

Cornered by cut in oil duties and rising subsidy bills, the finance minister has cracked the whip and has ordered the tax department to mop up over Rs 50000 crore over the direct tax collections target for this year. The outgoing Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Prakash Chandra is confident of going ahead of the original target.
