Decoding: How Captain Smit Recovered The Plane From Its Dive A routine Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv turned into a mid-air fight for survival when a violent confrontation erupted inside the cockpit. As FZ1073 cruised at around 34,000 feet, the aircraft suddenly began losing altitude, plunging more than 14,000 feet in less than a minute. At the same time, the captain was reportedly attacked and stabbed by his co-pilot. Despite being seriously injured, Captain Smit Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, creating an opportunity for passengers and crew to intervene. Passengers rushed forward, helped overpower the attacker and secured the cockpit. Off-duty pilots travelling on the flight then took control of the aircraft and began the process of stabilising and diverting it. The Flydubai cockpit horror is being described as an extraordinary fight for control, with the captain's presence of mind and the passengers' quick response playing a crucial role in saving the aircraft. Experts decoding the incident said opening the cockpit door was a key decision that allowed passengers to subdue the attacker and regain control, while the motive behind the incident remains under investigation.
