No canteen, no school bus and no picnics for students of Chennai's Bala Vidya Mandir School whose parents refuse to pay the extra fee. Moreover, no training for protection against sexual harassment. The school which charged an annual fee of Rs. 60,000 for students in class 6 to class 8, 67 per cent more than recommended by state appointed fee determination committee, are justifying their expenses. After the parents demanded a refund of the extra fee paid, the school informed them about the facilities their children won't be able to use. This also included a limit of 4.5 hours of classroom sessions in a day, no overseas exchange programme and no participation in annual day celebrations.
