Catholic Church | Catholic Peruvians Unveil A Statue To Commemorate Pope Leo Catholic Peruvians in the city of Chiclayo unveiled a spotless white statue of Pope Leo XIV, whom they consider a cornerstone of their city, after he spent more than 10 years of his religious life working in the Diocese. Regional and municipal government officials, as well as religious leaders from the area, participated in the ceremony, which included music and a mass. The 5-meter-high white fiberglass piece was created by Peruvian artist and sculptor Juan Carlos Ñañake, known for his religious and monumental works in Lambayeque. This monument is a central feature of the so-called “Pope's Route.” Robert Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV, was born in Chicago, United States. In 2015, he was granted Peruvian citizenship, a month before Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Chiclayo, in the northern region of the South American country.
