Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has provided a major update on the India-Canada trade deal following his bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. The talks marked one of the most significant engagements between the two countries since diplomatic ties were strained after the 2023 Nijjar controversy. The two leaders welcomed renewed momentum in relations and reaffirmed their commitment to concluding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by 2026. Discussions also covered energy cooperation, trade, security collaboration and the launch of negotiations on a General Security of Information Agreement (GSOIA), signalling a broader reset in India-Canada ties.
