Bones Of Saint Francis To Go On Public Display For Veneration In Assisi

For the first time in history, the bones of Saint Francis of Assisi will be placed on public display inside the Lower Basilica of Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi. The Franciscan friars are organizing the month-long exposition to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the saint’s death. Known for his message of peace, love for the poor, and care for the environment, St. Francis continues to inspire millions worldwide, including Pope Francis, who chose his papal name in honor of the 13th-century saint. With an estimated 400,000 pilgrims expected to visit Assisi during the one-month period, city authorities have arranged additional parking spaces and shuttle services to accommodate the large influx of visitors.
