In a major shift aimed at transforming learning outcomes, the CBSE will introduce open-book exams for Class 9 students starting from the 2026–27 academic year. Approved in June 2025, the decision has stirred nationwide debate. Under this system, students will be allowed to bring textbooks, notes, and study materials into the exam hall — not to copy answers, but to assess conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and real-world application. This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is seen as a significant step away from rote learning and toward problem-solving-based education. NDTV’s Yasharth Rai reports on this education overhaul.
