Bengal bandh: Rift in Left alliance
Wednesday's 24-hour shutdown in West Bengal was the first of its kind since it was called not by an opposition party, but by the Forward Bloc, which is a partner of the ruling Left Front. The Bloc was protesting against the very government it supports. The bandh crippled life in the State on Wednesday but its impact on Left unity may be far more damaging.
