Assam's Massive Drive To Free Wetlands From Encroachment

In a very significant move to address the recurring issue of urban flooding in and around Guwahati, the Assam government on Monday carried out a massive bill dozer action to free the wetland from encroachment with the demolition of the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) located in Guwahati's Cachal. This drive us part of Himanta Biswa Sarma govt's plan is to free two major wetlands — Silsako and Deepor Beel — have been severely encroached upon over the years,to reduce flash floods as they act as city’s natural drainage system.
